Turning Dust to Gold
Stories that are deep, tragic, flippant, hopeful
by Susan Hickman
My very long life is a story, or rather a series of stories. There’s nothing straightforward about it. I was born in England, immigrated to Canada, returned to England and lived in France and Spain, including on a remote Mediterranean island. I’ve travelled to 39 countries and across 10 Canadian provinces and 25 American states.
Many chapters of my life have crumbled into dust. Others have changed the trajectory of my beingness. Always, I have searched and found the golden nugget in my heart that has enabled me to turn the tumbleweeds, the mountains and the chasms into gems that keep the story (and me) alive.
In this newsletter, I share some of my many life experiences (including my travels) and some of my writing experiences as a career journalist who is on the verge of (but will never reach) retirement. There will be poetry and ponderings and excerpts from some of the thirteen books I am currently writing.
Some of these stories are deep, some are tragic, some are flippant and some are hopeful.
